About Atletico Nacional
Club Atletico Nacional S.A., also known as Atletico Nacional, is a professional Colombian football team based in Medellin, Colombia that currently plays in the Categoria Primera A. Atlético Nacional was founded in 1947 by Julio Ortiz, Jorge Osorio Cadavid, Jorge Gómez, Arturo Torres, Gilberto Molina, Alberto Eastman, Raúl Zapata Lotero y Luis Alberto Villegas Lopera. They play their home games at the Estadio Atanasio Girardot stadium.
Many Colombian legends have originated from Nacional such as Rene Higuita and most noticeably Andrés Escobar who is still held high in respect for not only Nacional but country.
A strong rich history, Nacional has won 11 league titles, 1 Superliga Colombiana, and 1 Copa Colombia. It is also the first Colombian team to win the Copa Libertadores de America in 1989 thus marking the era of Colombian football.
